There are twelve categories addressed in this set of Friendly Defender cards. We have put the cards in a recommended order for learning (see the other side of this card). Your style and sequence of presentation may vary.

I. Tradition

1) "Everything God wants us to know is in the Bible alone."
2) "Why do Catholics teach things not in the Bible?"
3) "You have man-made traditions."

II. Church

1) "How does Jesus speak to us today?"
2) "I don't need a church to tell me what to believe."
3) "The Bible is the ultimate authority of truth."
4) "You believe your church is the one true church."
5) "You have to be either a Catholic or a Christian, not both."
6) "You think the Catholic Church has never made an error."

III. Papacy

1) "How can you believe Peter was the first pope?"
2) "Jesus said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan"."
3) "Only the Bible is infallible. No mere man is infallible."
4) "Galatians 2:11 says Peter, "was clearly in the wrong."
5) "Even if Peter had authority, it wasn't passed on."

IV. Eucharist/Mass

1) "At every Catholic Mass, Jesus is sacrificed again."
2) "How can you believe a piece of bread is really Jesus?"
3) "Jesus never said to eat his body."
4) "Eating his flesh is so gross. Jesus couldn't have meant it literally."

V. Salvation

1) "I know for sure I'm going to heaven."
2) "1 John 5:13 says we can know we have eternal life."
3) "Once you become a Christian, you can't lose your salvation."
4) "The Bible teaches that we're saved by faith alone."
5) "Catholics think salvation is earned."

VI. Purgatory

1) "Purgatory is not necessary. You're either saved or not."
2) "St. Paul says to be away from the body is to be at home with the Lord."
3) "You think purgatory is a second chance to get saved?"

VII. Baptism

1) "Are you born again?"
2) "Baptism is just symbolic. It doesn't save you."
3) "It's faith that saves you, not water."
4) "A baby can't give his heart to Jesus. How can he be baptized?"

VIII. Mary (front)

1) "Catholics worship Mary."
2) "The Bible doesn't say we should "honor Mary."
3) "You call Mary the Mother of God! She is just Jesus' human mother."
4) "Matthew 13:55-56 proves Jesus had brothers."
5) "Catholics think Mary never sinned, but she called God her savior."
6) "There is no Queen of Heaven. Certainly not Mary."
7) "Why pray to Mary when you can go directly to Jesus?
8) "The rosary is against the Bible."

IX. Saints

1) "Why do Catholics pray to dead people?"
2) "Why do you wear medals of saints?"
3) "Catholics say the bones of dead saints can heal."

X. Confession

1) "Why tell your sins to a priest? A man can't forgive sins."
2) "It would be too embarrassing to tell my sins."
3) "Catholics think, "I can sin today, and go to confession tomorrow."

XI. Statues

1) "The Bible forbids "graven images," so why do Catholics use statues?"
2) "Catholics took out the second commandment."
3) "Exodus 20:4 forbids making the likeness of anything in heaven or on earth.

XII. Holy Orders

1) "Why do you have priests? All Christians are priests."
2) "Matthew 23:9 says "call no man your father"."
3) "Priests are forbidden to marry and that's against the Bible."
