Catholics rally to keep Tebow Super Bowl commercial

It didn't take any prompting from the pulpit.

Catholics all over the country have taken their own initiative to connect with CatholicVote.org and petition CBS to air the scheduled Tim Tebow pro-life ad. Driving force behind the campaign has been grass roots email efforts. Catholics with even the slighest pro-life connection opened up their Sunday email with a link to the CatholicVote.org plea.

Last year CatholicVote.org created a pro-life ad using President Barrack Obama and the theme "Life: Imagine the Potential." It submitted the commercial for NBC's Super Bowl broadcast but NBC was rejected it on the grounds that the network does not show ads involving Òpolitical advocacy or issues.Ó (CatholicVote.org denied there was anything objectionable in the ad. )

This year Focus on the Family seems to have had success with CBS. Its pro-life ad submission celebrates the accomplishments of college football star Tim Tebow. In 1985, TebowÕs mother Pam rejected advice to abort her child. As we all know, her baby, Tim Tebow, went on to start for Florida and won the Heisman Trophy.

CBS has approved the ad. But as any listen to ESPN or national new casts has proven, pro-abortion groups have made a substantial public effort to get CBS to stop any airing.

As this quote from Tommy Craggs from DeadSpin indicates, the pro-abortion protest have gotten quite vicious: "I'm guessing the Tebow's ad, for spanky Jim Dobson's Focus on the Family, will extol the glories of family and motherhood and the value of children and other seemingly innocuous fare; it will also be 30 seconds of anti-abortion dog-whistling to the Christian right on a frequency somewhere beyond the range of only CBS executives. The moral, implicit or otherwise, will be: donÕt terminate your pregnancy; that blastocyst might turn into Tim Tebow."

CatholicVote.org reports that the Center for Reproductive Rights, in a letter to CBS, is flat-out claiming Tebow's mom is a liar.
